  • I started focusing on strength training and stepped away from the scale since I was initially gaining a lot of water weight from it.
I’m still REALLY wanting to meet my goals for this DietBet even though I feel far away.
I’m recommitting to weighing and tracking my calories tomorrow

Jennifer M.

Hey! Don’t worry about the past. You only have control over today. After losing over 100 lbs to date, I’ll tell you that consistency is the most important for success + not putting it off to ‘tomorrow’ or ‘Monday’ or ‘the new year’. Start right now. Go on a walk, have a protein shake, if you’re at a restaurant dinner order something not carby or calorie dense.

Your body will thank you for anything that you can do so never feel ‘far away’. Any progress is good and welcomed. Any progress is a step ahead from where you were yesterday. It’s all always worth it, no matter how ‘small’.

Jennifer M.

Also, if it’s water weight, don’t worry about it! Do watch out for anything making you retain water, though (elevated salt intake, inflammation from processed foods). The scale can lie to us - I’ve been able to keep my sanity by making sure my fat % and waist circumference goes down. Water weight is temporary and doesn’t matter in the long run. I’ve accepted that my weight will fluctuate +/- 3 lbs on a daily basis. If I eat processed foods, I’ve seen it fluctuate +5 to 10 lbs over a week (I’m really not exaggerating on this one - I’ve measured it a few times). So keep doing what you need to do and the number will eventually work its way out. Trust the process. If you completed your steps for the day (activity, sleep, min water, protein intake, low carbs, calorie limits), then you’ve won even if the scale doesn’t agree.

Let’s go all! I know a few of us didn’t reach our month 2 goals but there are 4 more months. Please keep going! You can definitely finish strong for month 6. Keep the faith and forget the last 2 months if they weren’t the best. At the end of the day, anything is progress and your health will thank you for it ❤

What! This is not getting enough attention. You go girl! I hope you’re feeling great?!

Jennifer M.

I peeked at your weightloss chart too. There was some yo-yoing a few years so I KNOW it must feel amazing to have made it work finally! And the weightloss looks steep! Aw so happy for you. I know what it is like to try and fail, try and fail, and wonder if you’ll ever get it right.

I submit my weigh in almost 8 hours ago and it’s still not verified. That’s a long time right?

Same here. It says verifying weigh-in.

Jennifer M.

Sometimes, it can take a day or 2.

Me too! Well i didn't sprain my ankle but i got achilles tendinitis.... we can still do this! Rest up, heal up and jump right back in.... figuratively of course :)

Jennifer M.

Take care! Stay strong! Remember most of it is the diet! Stay steady my friend! Lots of healing foods like salmon, tumeric, rich veggies like carrots, spinach if you can

I’m feeling not too bad but not too great either! Similar to what Crystal said, the scale isn’t reflecting how focused and consistent I’ve been but I’m going to continue to push on and stay focused. :muscle: It’s tricky to not let it get to me mentally but if I do that’s when it’ll all fall apart so gotta stay strong

Jennifer M.

Feeling good! Felt sluggish is April, May, but going strong right now. Missing having a summer drink here and there but it’s alright. My goals are important

Also, if this is a 6 month challenge, why do we have to lose most of it (9%) in 4 months? I feel like that defeats the purpose of having 6 months lol

This is more of a question for the admins?

You don't technically have to lose it all for the monthly weigh ins. They are like check ins and there is a pot attached to them but half of all the bets go to the final pot. You can win the first month and lose the next 2 and then win again. They probably pace it out that way because most people lose the lost at the start of a challenge and of being more determined and aware. Later it gets harder after those initial pounds are off so they make the final few months less. The final month is set up to basically be a maintain month but can also be a catch up month to still get the final pot. I think you have to have lost 6% by the 5th month to do the 6th month just so that people aren't doing unhealthy things to push to lose 10% in one month or something. But yah you still have the full 6 months to win the final and biggest pot. Obviously you want you aim to win the other months but don't beat yourself up if you only do 2% a month instead of 3% these first 2 months or you miss month and catch up later that's still a win. I don't know if any of that made sense but I hope you don't get too discouraged and just keep pressing on. If you don't make a monthly check in let it fuel your fire to work harder to meet the next one. You got this!

Amanda F.

In order to win the round 4, you must hit the 9%. In order to win round 5, you have to hit 10%. This is a mandatory weigh in, as you need to hit at least 6% to make sure you lose safely. Each of these rounds are only half of the winnings and the other half goes to round 6, where you maintain the 10% weight loss

Anybody in this group lose 50 plus pounds? Or has been on a consistent weightloss journey for a few months to 1+ years?

I’ve got 80 lbs to go and am already down around 50 this year from a previous challenge. It can be pretty time consuming and tedious since consistency is key here. Wanted to hear from others experiences?

Lisa R.

Way to go on the 50 pounds this year. I’ve got about 75-80 I’d like to lose.

Crystal L.

Hi!
I lost 80 pounds.
Then gained 20 back due to using food as an emotional coping mechanism.
And I’m now choosing better life skills to deal with stress and attempting to lose the 20lbs again
