Man oh man, ive been having a hard time. Ive got the weight for this game in the bag, but I've got another more intense bet I've made, and i started eating out again on and off. Ive only lost like a pound or 2 in quite some time. Which is still in the right direction. So I'm happy about that. But I'm still a bit worried about my eating habits after these games. I normally return to my bad habits. I don't want to gain it back. But I do every time...

But not this time!
I like to sign up for a game that takes me post holidays. For example I did one that ended two days after Thanksgiving. I still indulged- but not as much. We all fall off track - it’s how fast we get back on that matters.

laurenc

You've caught it!!! You're onto yourself before you get too far down the slippery slope! It can't be a never, but maybe keep a calendar of how often you eat out. Plan them ahead of time so its something you have to look forward to (and can also be intentional about your other meals that day to make 'room' for eating out). I've found myself doing something similar with drinking - now that I'm not sick anymore and my liver numbers are back to normal, I am tempted so much more to just have one drink. But when I do it every night of the week, even just that one drink adds up. It's hard to draw the line!

Started tracking in myfitnesspal and being consistent with tracking calories and protein. It's working so well for me right now. Aiming for 8k steps per day and strength training 4x week. Below my goal weight this round! Here's so more wins!

Way to go! It works well doesn't it? I used MyFitnessPal for these challenges for years! I loved that the free version has plenty enough features to healthily lose weight. My only problem was that I hate tracking, so it was never sustainable, hence why I kept having to come back for more challenges.

Gage F.

Myfitpal is amazing. Back when I was a hunk of muscle I used it religiously. When I stopped using it I put on the pounds. It is an extremely helpful tool.

Just had covid for over a week. (First time covid, haha) Fell off the diet, stayed away from the scale... still lost 4 lbs???? What the heck just happened. I mean, I didn't OVER do the eating. Just ate junk like I used to. Just not like, the whole menu. Im so confused right now. Maybe I'm super dehydrated. Maybe my scale is broken. This makes NO sense.

Im not complaining, I know some of you wish this magic would happen to you. Im just stating an anomaly in my journey.

I thought I was going to have to fast to catch back up... nope.

Stay healthy my friends!

Lucky you! Day 4 of the flu over here, and I'm not eating, no interest in food, and I still gained a pound this morning! Wtf !?

Naomi D.

Dehydration and/or loss of muscle can easily cause a drop like this. Conversely water retention might explain Lauren's experience.

So, this is my first ever diet bet. Im still learning how to navigate this app. But I'm wondering, are there bets on here to gain muscle mass? I'm very money motivated. Seems that when I put money on the line, I meet my goals easily. After I lose the weight, i want to gain some back in muscle.

So are there bets like this on here?

  • Wow, woke up to a 3 lb weight loss over night. Which was 0.2 lbs below my goal of an overweight BMI (BMI <30). It's a bit annoying that Renpho is still rounding my BMI up to 30.0 and still calling me obese, but I'm gonna call it overweight and I will be walking around with my head held high today. Goal achived!

Yesterday was spaghetti night (that is code for a hard day). My wife made double. Pasta is a trigger food for me. I finished the day at a 500 calorie surplus, where a normal day is a 500 calorie deficit. One of my daughters turned 6 this weekend too, cake! Yum! I'm still averaging at about a 350 calorie deficit per day for the past week, but the scale is up 2 lbs today. I worked pretty had to lose that last 2 lbs, how dare it come back in one day. What makes it worse is I was 2 lbs away from my next goal of an overweight BMI. Oh well, now it's 4 lbs. The complexities of weight lost science are lost on me, even with this little bump in the road I have lost 14.4 lbs since this game started and I intend to keep doing what I have been doing and one day I will be overweight!

I too LOVE pasta! I have really started to love Baanza (sp?). It’s a chickpea pasta that actually has a texture very like regular pasta. It tastes great too! It’s not low carb but it’s definitely healthier carbs that regular pasta. I eat it when I really have a pasta craving and it’s super satisfying! Even my skinny husband that has no weight issues ever (damn him!) likes it.

Serious question. Can I stop playing after the first month? My weight loss is happening more aggressively than the pace of this game. It is more on pace with a monthly Kickstarter and I'm worried I'll lose too much weight and lose at some point during this 6 month game?

I know this sounds crazy but... don't focus on winning. Yes, it's great to win but focus on how you feel.

Be consistent each month and work towards overall health. Stretch, lift, move, sleep and eat healthy each day. Feel your body get more flexible and mobile over time. Take down your weekly successes and monthly successes to stay motivated.

Keep working hard and remember the real prize is the quality of life!

Gage F.

I had the same issue. Ive already lost my round 1 & 2 weight. But- you need to loose 12% to be disqualified in rouund 1. Im at about 9% I'd need to loose ~7 lbs in ~3 days to be disqualified. So I'm cutting it a bit close, but not so close I'm worried. Im sure I'll get nowhere near the round 2 disqualification. And if i do, im probably just starving myself half to death. Which admittedly ive been on a real bad crash diet to get myself a head start. Not recommended. But I've made another bet and I mostly wanted the head start on that one because it's a much more aggressive weight loss to win.

  • It's getting easier to put my boots on in the morning and there is more room between I and my steering wheel.

I'm happy. But hungry. Always hungry. Loosing the weight is going to be no problem for me. It's not gaining it back afterwards. I've done it over and over for the past 7 years and I'd like to stay fit this time.

I used to have a six pack, 25 year old me would be pissed if he knew I threw that away. 32 year old me wants it back. I want to feel strong and attractive again. I want that confidence back.

This is about 8.5 years of tracking my weight. I do not like the trend line.

Over time, your appetite will shift and change (since the weight loss doesn't happen overnight)!! You won't always be hungry when you get to your goal weight/body goals. Sometimes hunger, or at least perceived hunger, is more mental than physical - it's like pavlovs dogs - I look at a clock and see "noon" and my brain starts triggering hunger cues - but on days when I fast, and pay no mind to the clock - I find my hunger hits different (less) and at different times! All this to say, a shift in your mindset over time (not overnight) can help prevent the weight from coming back - invest in books/journaling/anything else it takes to cement your newer/stronger self! (And I say this to you, as I, too, need this motivation ;)

laurenc

Also, I recommend following Broccoli Mum on social media - her way of cooking is all about BULK eating low calorie food, which can also help stave off hunger! And a great way to increase fiber.

Who else does a cheat day once a week?

Pros?
Cons?

I do it because I'm on track, actually quite a bit over my goal. And I want to eat everything. Lol.

I agree with pretty much everyone. I see all of us making a lifestyle change, so we aren't "dieting" per se...so nothing should be off limits, but that being said, there are good food choices and bad food choices. So there really aren't cheat days or meals, just choices you adjust your daily plan to accommodate.

Gage F.

I love all the input I found here, I'd reply individually, but I gotta go to work haha. I do think reward day is better than cheat day for sure. And I think it's important for me because I'm a very black and white person there is no grey area. So these days I eat more feel freeing. Like finding the grey area finally.

Plus, I noticed i got full so fast I couldn't eat like I used to. I hope my stomach stays smaller. I tend to regain weight after I reach my goals. I hope not this time.
