  • Just finished a brutal lower body workout and couldn’t be bothered to transfer the salad out of the mixing bowl, just eating it straight out of here. Modified Cobb salad with homemade Greek yogurt ranch dressing and baby carrots. Also got 80 oz of water down for the day!

My diet is off the rails due to a stressful week that involved birthdays, flagrant disobedience from a child, and a concussion—all involving the same kid. I was doing so well! How to ease myself back on the rails?

  • Thinking about skipping a workout?

    Try the 5-minute rule.

    Just get into your workout and give yourself absolute permission to stop after 5 minutes. Knowing you can stop if you want to makes the workout less daunting, but I’m going to guess you’ll keep going.

    Has anyone tried this before?

    💡 Do you have any other "tricks" like this you use to get yourself started?

My main trick is repeatedly telling myself that I GET to do this. I get to work out. I am privileged to be able to work out. The next trick is to get into my workout clothes immediately after waking up. It tricks my mind into thinking I've already committed to working out!

Yes! I just started doing strength training to supplement my walking/hiking with a plan to do every other day. I was not feeling it last night. Got home from work, went on treadmill for 30 min, ate dinner and kept procrastinating. Finally at 8:30, got off the couch and decided to do “a few minutes” and did it for the full 30 min. Felt so good.

  • First workout of 2025!! I’ve got a concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas next month for my birthday and a family cruise in June where I will need to do a lot of walking. I need to be able to walk more than 100 feet without huffing and puffing. (Long Haulers C0V!D sucks!!) So when you discover your gym has the same exercise machine that you kicked butt on in physical therapy when you could not even stand on your own, much less walk, there are NO EXCUSES! I went last week and I couldn’t even figure out how to turn on the machine and felt so overwhelmed, frustrated, and embarrassed that I left then sat in my car and cried. So I asked a sweet young lady at the counter to show me. I managed 13 minutes on this bad boy before my son texted me that his class got out early (thank goodness 😜) but I had committed to do 20 minutes if I was able, and I was! (Never mind the 30 minutes I sat in my car in the parking lot before even getting up the courage to go inside. Minutes I could have rewarded myself with an Aqua Massage after exercising if I’d gone in right away! ???????????) Got my heart rate got up to 120 and oxygen stayed at 94% or above. I’m calling it a WIN! It’s a start anyway. Gotta start somewhere right? Yay me!! Last fall I dropped the boys at their college and drove right past this Planet Fitness on my way to McDonald’s just about every weekday. That’s another win! Treated myself to a nice Cobb Salad with grilled chicken at Whataburger afterward since I had missed breakfast. Trying to stay under my calorie allotment today. I haven’t been tracking them at all this month but I’ve still got 1.5lbs to lose to make my goal on Saturday morning. Time to buckle down and hold myself accountable. I can do this!

    To answer a couple questions I've seen lately... Our weigh-in for this round will be February 1 and 2. The weigh-in period begins at midnight pacific time. You can weigh-in anytime during those two days.
    👍 If you've met your goal, weigh-in early to allow plenty of time for approval or to fix your submission if necessary.
    👍 If you're thisclose to meeting your goal, feel free to wait until the 2nd.
    👍 Any official weigh-in you complete in another game, or as a member, that has been approved can be re-used for this game within 48 hours. Start the weigh-in process and select the option to re-use an approved weigh-in, just make sure to keep an eye on the time!

Sunday morning I was 150.6 (3.8 lbs below goal). This morning I was 155. 😂 Literally have done nothing different. Why are our bodies so weird and confusing? I’ve been at/below goal since the 14th and randomly my body says HAHA JOKES ON YOU. But it’s okay, juice cleansing and getting my water in today. Whatever happens will happen. I don’t need advice, just here to vent and if anyone else is also experiencing this weirdness you aren’t alone! 😂 Looks I’ll be weighing Thursday morning instead of tomorrow morning unless by some weird miracle these extra random 3lbs fall off as quick as they showed up!

My weight loss has been completely unpredictable. I was one pound away from my goal then woke up today to be 5 pounds up! Ridiculous! Perimenopause sucks!

  • What an inspiring group!! Some of you are off to an incredible start!

    Early on I saw some of you ask about your weigh-in goals and / or losing too much weight. The exact breakdowns are in our Make the New Year Magic Transformer FAQs, but I want to put your mind at ease about a few things.

    First, your goals are all set already based off your initial weigh-in. They will not change during this game. If you lose more this month, you're that far ahead for your Round 2 goal. To check your monthly goals click the Round Info button by your Round 1 progress on desktop, and All to the right of the Rounds at the top of the app.

    Second, you would have to be experiencing some very unhealthy weight loss to be disqualified during a round. Unless you experience an illness, in which case you can reach out to support@dietbet.com, losing 12% of your starting weight during one round is unlikely. See the breakdown for each round here.

    Third, there is a difference between our prizes for this game (awarded monthly to anyone active in this game, regardless of weigh-ins or membership) and Weekly Membership Prizes (awarded weekly to Members who have completed the weekly progress weigh-in by Wednesday of each week). Find more information here.

Steven, if you miss one of the Rounds, you just forfeit the winning for that Round (half of each monthly bet goes towards the Round winnings and half goes toward the overall winnings). Therefore, you can miss a round or two and still come out on top!

One thing to make sure of is that you don't miss the required Round 5 weigh-in. Everyone is required to have lost at least 6% at that point to continue so there are no unhealthy sprints to the finish.
