I’ve been trying to get more movement into my day and decided I wanted to climb a virtual mountain using the stairs in my house. I measured the step height and done the math so I know how many I need to climb to get to the summit of my chosen mountain. I’ve struggled with agoraphobia throughout my life and climbing a real mountain is probably pushing myself too far right now but I like the idea of climbing. It seems like a great way to work on leg strength, get fitter overall and it’s measurable. I’m starting with virtually climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales and I eventually want to work up to Everest. It will take me a long time but I feel I can do it. Has anyone else done something similar?

I really like this idea, too.

This is such a fantastic idea!! We've had step climbing games on the WayBetter app, but I love this idea of tying it to a mountain goal!

Today is my day 1 - I gave myself New Year’s Day for special dinner and alc.

I’m motivated, no off limit foods in the house. It’s going to be a long hard battle - I have 60lbs to lose, I’ve never been this overweight. I am breaking it down into mini goals.

First is to lose enough to feel comfortable in my fat jeans (right now even those are so tight I hate to get dressed or leave the house). I work from home and pretty much live in my PJs since they are the only thing I have that are comfortable.

My approach: eliminate bad carbs, mostly whole foods (lean protein, lots of veggies, a little fruit), intermittent fasting (2 meals between 12-7pm), move more, drink less alc (eliminating completely to start).

Anyone else setting goals that are not directly tied to the number on the scale?

I’m trying to get back to IF. It’s hard with all the overeating I’ve been doing. I’m currently spreading my meals farther apart, then next week will be only eating 11–7 window. Dry for 6 months. Weigh and track all my food, 64 oz water and stay in calorie deficit every day. Here we go!!

I love these goals!! I'm doing something very similar! Also wanted to share/recommend looking into the Fast-Mimicking Diet (you can set it up yourself, find recommendations online for how to do it, or just buy the $kit$ from Prolon). You only have to do it 5 days/month or quarter, so I find it manageable! And I always feel so much better after.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have a sedentary job. I’ve started to add exercise “snack breaks” throughout my day to help get my blood flowing. A few pushups here, and some body squats there—nothing strenuous mind you—, and suddenly I feel less crusty by the end of the day.

Hopefully this helps someone out there.

What a great idea! I have a sedentary job as well! I am going to try this!

Lacey D.

I need to keep this in mind. What I need to do is move throughout the day so I don’t stiffen up at my desk and drink more water while I work. I might add in some squats like you suggested!

  • I’ve recently started a job working from home and my daily steps have dropped from an average 14,000 steps to about 5,000 steps and I haven’t adjusted my eating. I’m now back to my heaviest.

So I have now booked a half marathon for June and plan to eat healthier and exercise more! Today I ran 5 miles for the first time in 6 months!

I’d lost 110lbs previously using dietbets. End of 2023 I found out I was pregnant and now have an amazing 5 month old. Only problem is I’m now over half way back to my heaviest weight and my body image is really beating me down every time I see my reflection… any tips on how to stop the comparisons to my slimmest self as it’s putting me in a negative frame of mind and makes exercise difficult when I can feel my extra weight with every move 😕

I use my skinniest (50 lbs less than I am right now) as my motivation as much as possible - because I know my body is capable of that (as opposed to making one of those motivational boards filled with super models that I will never be). Maybe try reframing your approach when you think about who you 'used' to be - because deep down, that person is still a part of you!! You don't have to get back there, necessarily, you have other more important priorities right now, anyway. But I also think - having kids this young - now is the time to get in shape so that we can keep up with them - and they won't see us dieting when they're older if we can get to a GOOD place and then work on maintaining. That's my goal, anyway! I don't want my daughter to ever see me dieting - just taking care of my body!

Antonia E.

Totally agree! I don’t want my little one seeing me dieting all the time. I want him to see a healthy relationship with food and hope it helps him develop a good healthy relationship with food

Hi all! I’m 36 and just got out of a slightly toxic 9 year relationship with someone who didn’t make me feel very good about myself. I think I started self-sabotaging my health and have been dealing with excess pounds now for the past 3 years. I’m so, so ready to start putting myself first again and am excited to transform back to my best version!

Same with self sabotage, but we are here and have a community, let's reach our goals!!

laurenc

Congratulations on identifying the toxicity and getting it out of your system!! And cheers to our best selves this year!!

I turned 40 in October and am the heaviest I've been. I'm afraid if I don't really begin healthy habits now I never will.

I'm doing this for my physical and mental health, my toddler and my wife. I want to be around for a long time, so I'm motivated to not only lose weight but create and maintain healthy, sustainable habits.

Those are great reasons for doing this! Good luck

laurenc

Me too, Steven!! 40 in October, and I hope to lose 40 lbs by then!! (Because it's catchy ;) And because a 40 lbs weight loss would put me at my pre-baby weight, so I do thing it's a healthy 'goal' for me)
We got this!!!
