For members you can do a weekly weigh in for a prize and that they do give you a word for. These are not mandatory and you can continue to unofficially weigh in as much as you like.

Thank you!

Today is my day 1 - I gave myself New Year’s Day for special dinner and alc.

I’m motivated, no off limit foods in the house. It’s going to be a long hard battle - I have 60lbs to lose, I’ve never been this overweight. I am breaking it down into mini goals.

First is to lose enough to feel comfortable in my fat jeans (right now even those are so tight I hate to get dressed or leave the house). I work from home and pretty much live in my PJs since they are the only thing I have that are comfortable.

My approach: eliminate bad carbs, mostly whole foods (lean protein, lots of veggies, a little fruit), intermittent fasting (2 meals between 12-7pm), move more, drink less alc (eliminating completely to start).

Anyone else setting goals that are not directly tied to the number on the scale?

I’m trying to get back to IF. It’s hard with all the overeating I’ve been doing. I’m currently spreading my meals farther apart, then next week will be only eating 11–7 window. Dry for 6 months. Weigh and track all my food, 64 oz water and stay in calorie deficit every day. Here we go!!

I love these goals!! I'm doing something very similar! Also wanted to share/recommend looking into the Fast-Mimicking Diet (you can set it up yourself, find recommendations online for how to do it, or just buy the $kit$ from Prolon). You only have to do it 5 days/month or quarter, so I find it manageable! And I always feel so much better after.

  • I normally don’t eat breakfast because I do IF, but with all the overeating during the last 6 months, I need to ease back into IF. Here’s my breakfast this morning. 1 piece sourdough toast, 1 tbsp low fat ricotta, 1/2 tbsp lemon peel preserves and 10 blueberries. Sorry I dug in before I took the picture. It was really good. 243 calories

Sounds amazing! Love good ideas with Ricotta!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have a sedentary job. I’ve started to add exercise “snack breaks” throughout my day to help get my blood flowing. A few pushups here, and some body squats there—nothing strenuous mind you—, and suddenly I feel less crusty by the end of the day.

Hopefully this helps someone out there.

What a great idea! I have a sedentary job as well! I am going to try this!

Lacey D.

I need to keep this in mind. What I need to do is move throughout the day so I don’t stiffen up at my desk and drink more water while I work. I might add in some squats like you suggested!

  • I’ve recently started a job working from home and my daily steps have dropped from an average 14,000 steps to about 5,000 steps and I haven’t adjusted my eating. I’m now back to my heaviest.

So I have now booked a half marathon for June and plan to eat healthier and exercise more! Today I ran 5 miles for the first time in 6 months!

REAL CHANGE STICKS WITH YOU:

What real changes are you committing to? Last time I did a dietbet, I removed sodas from my daily diet. It's crazy that at one point I told my wife, "I'm not having more than two sodas a day." Two a day? Even at two a day, that's more than 100% of your daily sugar! Rather than doing one a day, I went to NONE! It was hard at first and I've definitely had a soda here and there (Maybe one a month) but it's a big treat now and not something I crave daily.

What am I planning this time?

I have to stick with lifting. I've been focusing on getting up to 20 and 30 pound weight work outs. Last night I had to cut back to 10 pounds during a 20 minute work out routine but I got through it. I've seen progress before and it happens slowly. I have to remember where I am at right now and then look back monthly at the changes.

What real changes are you making and sticking to for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!?

Intermittent Fasting 16 hours a day and dry January. I’m excited to give my body a break from bad habits

Lisa,

Good for you! Understanding where you need to focus is the key. The hardest point in my life was a three year period where I worked from home. I actually hit my top weight during this period. Also, my joints hurt from all the sitting. I started stretching and walking more and dramatically changed me!

  • This past year I climbed to my highest weight ever reaching an all time high of 354. I was disgusted with myself, my weight has prevented me from doing some of my favorite things and made me uncomfortable in regular situations, for example sitting in chairs that squeeze my hips, just moving my body, putting on clothes, and more. I started taking back my like on 12/29 and set the following goals for the month:
Exercise at least 3x a week for 30 mins
    Drink plenty of water
Get back to eating healthier and tracking food
Do exercises that I find fun to move my body, not a punishment
    Loose 10 lbs this month
And lastly, to track everything in this book.
I absolutely love this book. I am more of a hands on person when it comes to tracking, I like to physically write things down and journal. This book is 6 months worth of planning goals and tracking and so far I am loving it. 😍

I hope whatever your goals are, you reach them and have fun while doing so!

That planner is EPIC!! I have no doubt that the legends filling its pages will feature a Heroine who battles daily struggles, with a monster you can't see, but you can feel breathing him breathing down your neck, but she discovers it is just her fears, doubts, and insecurities. They are not easily defeated, but they are far from invincible. She drowns out the voice of uncertainty with her own heartbeat. She burns way the self-doubt with the fire lit beneath her. Yeah... that's a cool cover

Lisa R.

I’m taking my life back too. I can relate to the fitting in chairs and getting exhausted getting dressed. Don’t get me started on trying on clothes - that is a workout & not a fun one. I’m cheering you on to reach all your goals. I like writing and will check out this book. Thanks for sharing.

Michelle, I feel you. My heaviest last year was 357. I got down to 310, but I gained most of it back. Started again on Jan 1st.
I’m here for you and I know you can do it!

  • Happy new year everyone. This is my second DietBet (signed up for the Dec one but didn’t really participate) and this month I’m focusing on being more consistent with my exercise. Been losing/gaining the same 1-2kg for the last 6 months after losing 30kg (66lbs) in the 12 months before that, and I think it’s because I haven’t been as active. It’s evening time here on the 2nd Jan (Australia) and the first 2 days have been good. Hit the gym yesterday for about an hour and did a 2.2km walk with my mum this afternoon.

Where is everyone from? Are there any other Aussies here?

I’m in Kansas. I work at a college and have a student from Australia. It’s going to be really cold here when she returns to Kansas from winter break in Australia. I imagine it will be a shock to her system.

2024 was a great year for me personally and professionally. However physically it was not. I’m as overweight as I ever have been in my life and I’m excited to commit to my physical health for 2025. Let’s go!!
