I’m not quite on track to win this, but I *am* very motivated! Hoping to see the scale move this week! Keeping my goal in sight! 💪

  • Our 1.5 year old rescue has recently learned she can jump this fence. Because our back fence is technically the property of the HOA we can't do anything about it. I've been doing my best to find a new home for her (with lots of land, or a tall fence) to no avail. Unfortunately when she jumps it's to chase other dogs, so she just isn't safe in our yard. :( I am completely heartbroken. The silver lining is Im walking her a lot more and getting steps in while we search. But long term, for the rest of her life (for her sake) this just isn't feasible. :( if anyone has any recommendations (aside from an invisible fence, because that won't deter her when she gets fixated on chasing another dog) I am all ears!!

It sounds like you're doing your best to help your dog, and I believe exercise can play a huge role in calming her down. If you continue walking her regularly and getting her involved with other dogs, she’ll likely tire out more and lose the urge to jump over the fence or chase after fish and other dogs. This way, she'll start to see the backyard as a more peaceful space for resting and playing rather than a place to escape.

As for the fence issue, since you’re dealing with HOA restrictions, one option could be adding a higher fence or some kind of barrier to discourage her from jumping over. You could also consider training her to associate positive behavior in the yard, like offering treats or praise when she stays inside the boundaries. Regular walks and playtime will help keep her active, and with consistent training, you can help her learn to stay safe and content at home. You’ve got this – and it sounds like you're already making great progress!

Kira J.

Training, adding on to the inside of the fence to make it higher, or electric fences are the best options. My dog will try to push through our vinyl fencing. It's plenty high for him not to go over it, but we didn't trust the panels to hold. A few times into the electric fence, and I honestly haven't needed it turned on after the first couple of months. He still stays away from that side of the yard a year later. Just remember to turn those off before mowing and keep free of debris.

  • The birds in Oklahoma say it's spring and I'm excited! I'm hoping to get more activity in this month in the form of yardwork and starting a new raised bed garden in our back yard. I'm not a good gardener but I want to get better at it. Yesterday I took this picture at a local park, a pair of birds with the female on the nest while the male keeps watch, so cute.

My weight was up since the last challenge ended when I weighed in yesterday. Although most days I ate sensible portions and practiced intermittent fasting, I also ate a lot of foods that I know for me make me hold water (peppers and dairy I'm looking at you, I love you why don't you love me back!). So after a "fun foods" weekend I am back to eating in a way that supports my goals and I'm looking forward to making progress alongside all of you during the next 4 weeks.

Peppers? Like bell peppers?

Kathryn P.

Yes, any peppers including bell peppers, and it was bell peppers I ate, only a few slices too. I gain a few pounds of water overnight if I eat them. For most people I think they are anti inflammatory actually but for some people, especially people who struggle with autoimmune issues they can be the opposite. I try not to eat them but occasionally I convince myself that they won't make me feel that bad

Yesterday was spaghetti night (that is code for a hard day). My wife made double. Pasta is a trigger food for me. I finished the day at a 500 calorie surplus, where a normal day is a 500 calorie deficit. One of my daughters turned 6 this weekend too, cake! Yum! I'm still averaging at about a 350 calorie deficit per day for the past week, but the scale is up 2 lbs today. I worked pretty had to lose that last 2 lbs, how dare it come back in one day. What makes it worse is I was 2 lbs away from my next goal of an overweight BMI. Oh well, now it's 4 lbs. The complexities of weight lost science are lost on me, even with this little bump in the road I have lost 14.4 lbs since this game started and I intend to keep doing what I have been doing and one day I will be overweight!

I too LOVE pasta! I have really started to love Baanza (sp?). It’s a chickpea pasta that actually has a texture very like regular pasta. It tastes great too! It’s not low carb but it’s definitely healthier carbs that regular pasta. I eat it when I really have a pasta craving and it’s super satisfying! Even my skinny husband that has no weight issues ever (damn him!) likes it.

One of my new habits this week, is posting here daily. Always great to read other posts and feel the support in here. Another habit I started today is doing a daily VR workout. That was challenging but fun.

I second putting a scheduled reminder for every weigh-in day in your phone calendar. I have totally remembered weigh-in day that morning, but I got caught up in the most trivial thing just to forget to submit my progress. It really sucks, but at least you hit your goal, and half of your buy-in this month is still waiting for you at the end of the 6 months.

I had this game and 2 others going. I kissed the two others, but I'm committed to not missing this one now! It hurt to throw money away like that when I lost the weight

How much Money you guys thinking we are gonna make?!?!

I'm thinking pot is $35,960 ×75% cuz dietbets got bills so $26,970 for the winners.

I'm thinking this round will have 1350 winners (I mean, really, we are all winners, I'm just thinking the ones getting paid). I've plaid a lot of these, I know.

So $35960 × 75% / 1350 = $19.977777

Dietbet will round up to 20 though cuz they would never let us lose money unless you got the membership. Then, you may not have recovered that in this round
$20 each that's my guess

Well I got injured and was 0.9 over the goal for this week. I’m bummed but hopefully will make it next round.

Stay strong. You’ll make it next month.

That's not too far off! Keep your nutrition tight and take care of your injuries. It's all you can do when that happens. Hope you heal up quickly.

Both my kids fence, and since my youngest struggles to focus enough for group lessons, I decided to start so I could help him. They've been going to that club for 7 or 8 months, so all the teens know us and chat with me while they're resting between bouts. I took my first intermediate class last night, which is the level at which you can start doing open practice. Every single one of them saw me with gear on as they came in and started calling dibs for a bout. Between the class and all the bouts, I was there for nearly 3 hours. It's really intense. I felt like I was dying the whole time, but at the same time, I was having a blast.

Soo, I'm definitely not making my goal this round. I think I've lost maybe 2lbs.

My workload essentially tripled at the start of this month as I took on a new teaching role on top of running a business and I have honestly been working 7 days a week, 12 hour days because that was the only way to get everything done... which has inevitably meant that health has come second (or third, maybe fourth).

Because I've been so fatigued some evenings I simply haven't cared what I was eating - I just needed enough energy to keep going, which has usually meant sugar.

I have just signed up to a healthy meal delivery service to help me for February and cut out a lot of shopping / meal prep time. I'm brainstorming today other ways I could help myself out so I can try and hit my goal for February.

But I was just thinking...

If I miss this round's goal, how does the next round work? Do I have to lose THIS round AND next round?! Because then I'll never catch up. :( Please could someone advise me?

Also any tips on how to prioritise health whilst working 70+ hour weeks lol...

Congrats Eli :). My not hitting the goal this month is not related to veganism at all - it's related to starting a new job on top of running a business, so I've been working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day which I am not used to at all and have just felt exhausted. I chose to outsource meal prep as that's one thing I can guarantee I can still get healthy vegan meals to help. If only I could outsource writing and designing a curriculum and running a business too lol. Yeah, maybe another game would be better so I don't feel behind!

Angela G.

I get meal deliveries too. Best thing I've done for my health and I've been doing it for over 2 years now. You'll be surprised how much time it saves AND mental energy. No more figuring out what to eat, its just in the fridge. Add a few other healthy snacks so you don't run to the sugar....and use the saved time to get some movement in. It will help with the stressful workload! And I agree with Eli, this group is very encouraging. It helps keep me motivated, even if I don't win the money in round 1, I'm moving forward which is a win in my book.
