  • Some days it feels too hard and maybe I should give up…some days it feels like I’m not making much progress at all…some days it feels like this is going to take forever to reach my goal- or worse yet never! That’s when I have to look back to remember where I started…20lbs down! Still a lot to go but a lot to celebrate too! My blood pressure has also gone down and has been consistently in a normal range for the last week! I’ve been right on the edge and next step would be medication so I’m happy to avoid that! 🎉

  • Park where the 5K was to be held is flooded and with the additional rains expected, it's been cancelled. I'm surprised by how disappointed I am about it.

Deb, guessing after the information has been revealed isn't great form. But still getting it wrong is funny! :D

Even though I don’t need to lose much this coming month, dropping now is getting harder. I haven’t been at this weight in years, so my body is just adjusting. But with spring finally here I’ll add in more walks, and I’ll stay consistent with my four-day-a-week weight training. I’m trusting that will be enough to keep me moving in the right direction.

The biggest change I’ve made this time around is that I’ve shifted my focus entirely. Instead of obsessing over calories, I’m making sure I get at least 120g of protein a day (preferably more, but protein is hard for me and 120g is a lot of food!!) and at least 30g of fiber (again, more is better). I’m also keeping refined sugar to a minimum. My body is responding in the best way.

At 49, I know how crucial protein and strength training are…. not just for weight loss, but for keeping muscle and long-term health. I’ve been a yo-yo dieter for years, and I know how much damage that cycle has done to my body. This time, I’m looking for sustainable changes.

@bh21 Honestly, it just starts with making it a priority—until one day, it becomes a lifestyle. I’ve been working out for years, not always perfectly, but here are a few things that help me stay consistent:
1. Every time I work out when I don’t feel like it, I think of it as a 2x win. And when I do feel like it, it’s a 10x. The days I push through when I’m not in the mood are honestly the biggest victories.
2. If I really don’t want to, I tell myself, “Just do 10 minutes.” Once I start, I usually keep going. Or I’ll commit to a 10-minute walk—once I’m outside, it always feels better.
3. The hardest part is just starting. If you can get past that first 5 minutes, you’re usually good.
4. Your future self will thank you. Every workout is a deposit into a healthier, stronger version of you.
5. Pair workouts with something enjoyable—music, a podcast, or even a favorite show. It makes it feel less like a chore.
6. Track how you feel after each workout, not just how you look. That boost in energy or mood is worth everything—and can be a great reminder on tough days

@michelle yes! The 30 different veggies a week is a game changer. It’s so good for your gut health and microbes. But it is also a little challenging and changes things up. My son is 14, we try to count some weeks just to masks sure we are up there. Have been doing that for years.

Came down to the wire today— weight has been a little up and down this month as I’ve been trying to find more sustainable balance in my choices and lifting heavier! I was technically .3lbs over when I woke up this morning so I walked for 30 mins and sat in the sauna for 30 mins, that did the trick and I came in 1.5 under.

My weightloss to date has been diet and resistance training, I think picking up the cardio is going to be key to finishing the challenge strong for me.

Hope everyone else is finding the right balance for them as well!

Kicking cardio is key for me, but I also sauna - I think it helps in more ways than just as a tool to make weigh in. :-)

HealthyLifeBlessings

Trying to find the balance, as I've picked up some exercise from being sedentary. I'm looking forward to also trying the sauna this month. Enjoy the balance!

One second, my scale weighs me in one thing; the next, it’s .8 lbs heavier. ? This is not helping!

That definitely sounds like low-battery behavior!

Are you weighing in the morning? Clothes tight? I weigh as soon as I wake up. If I wait an hr or later it will be heavier almost always.

I don’t think I’m going to make this round. I’m just now getting back down to my previous weigh-in weight. A couple of birthdays, hosting and work stress, and other stressor curveballs made for a tough month.

I only made weight the first round. And then I basically stopped losing weight. It’s not looking like I will make next month’s goal either, but I’m pushing to win the final month  I really hate losing my money, but I look and feel better than I did in December, so that’s a win. Hang in there!

I didn’t make this round . It’s a bit annoying as it’s very slow progress. I’m still playing catch up from last month too . So glad I’ve lost 7 lbs though so far and definitely looking better and it’s good for my health . Keep going everyone! Fingers crossed April is a super healthy month .

What is everyone’s favorite EASY foods. I’m working 14-18 hours a day during the week and 8ish a day on the weekends. I just don’t have time to cook so when I run out of meal prep from the week, I struggle with what to turn to. I’ve been grabbing those easy salad bags, protein packs with nuts and cheese, veggie packs but any other ideas would be great! When I haven’t had something healthy I notice I just don’t eat (not good!) so any help is appreciated!!!

Thank you everyone!!!!

Get some of those large glass jars - you can prep them (quickly) with some raw veggies and protein and angel hair rice noodles, then just add hot/boiling water when you're ready for a meal - let it set for 10-15 min and you've got a fresh, fiber & protein packed meal! (Super low fat, too - unless you're Adding some sauce/oil)

  • I'm 3 days post antibiotic, and trying like mad to replenish my microbiome (I'm a huge microbiome nerd). One of the GI Drs I follow on social media (and he's written a few books/cookbook as well) advocates for 30 unique plants a week. It sounds hard, but if you're predominantly vegan (like I am) it's super doable, with a little intention. In 3 days, here is a list of the 26(!!!) plants i've consumed (plants being grains, nuts, fruits & veggies):
Bulgar, Peas, Carrots, Onions, Chickpeas, Tomato, Rice, Sweet potato, Cabbage, Pumpkin Seeds, Apple, Soy, Wheat, Beets, Raspberries, Spinach, Greens, Hemp, Pecan, Artichokes, Black olives Red pepper, Cucumber, Banana, Blueberries, Almonds
And for dinner tonight I'll be adding corn and quinoa and green beans to that list, so I'll be at 29 in 3 days! This biodiversity gives the probiotics I'm consuming the best chance to recolonize and thrive in my gut.

@KarenP that is good to know about walking outside! I try to walk my dogs in the evening when it isn't too cold/windy out, but I'm not outside enough, I know!

Thanks!!
