  • I won’t be making my goal, but have lost inches and gained muscle! Fitting into clothes o haven’t worn in years. I can’t not lift weights as a nurse in the OR, can’t risk becoming weak and hurting my back.
    Here I am out on a headlamp ski after a long day in the 5 degree F Minnesota weather. Had to get some fresh air and minimal daylight after being within 4 white walls for 9 hours! Here’s to losing fat and gaining muscle! The scale doesn’t budge like water weight!

I am watching my salt intake. Also avoiding and flour based carbs, shouldn't eat them anyway because they mess with my glucose levels. The body will hold onto water to process simple carbs.

I lift weights and gain muscle pretty quickly. Any recommendations on how to lose weight without cutting too many calories since I am burning more lifting. I tend to lose these games because I lose inches and fat but gain more muscle. And I don’t want to waste away and not lift as lifting makes my body feel better

I do cardio also. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Carbs are a decent part of my diet. Definitely getting enough protein.

I so feel this! I know everyones body is different but here are some observations I’ve made about myself… I’ve added a creatine supplement into my daily routine to help preserve my lean muscle mass especially while trying to lose fat. While weight loss is an equation of burn more than you eat. I can’t lose weight by eating 1,200 calories lifting and doing cardio. I feel like I’m starving but if I eat about 1,500 calories a day my body will be willing to give up some fat. I also look at my calories on a weekly view and will have a higher calorie day to “trick” my body so it doesn’t get used to the same amount of calories daily. The other piece is making sure I’m getting healthy fats in my diet.

I already planned on treadmilling - thanks for the reminder to wear my weighted vest! I wore my ankle weights while vacuuming earlier for a little boost!

I'm using a new strategy this time than just reducing calories and increasing exercise (I'm doing that too), but I realized I need to do something about my insatiable hunger after pregnancy. It's coming from insulin resistance. My A1C is creeping up and Im just hungry ALL the time. So I looked into natural ways to correct hunger cues and insulin resistance, and here's what I learned - the order you eat food can be used to train the body to better use it's energy and to trigger natural GLP1 release, and increasing viscous fiber helps with feeling full longer and triggering that same GLP1 response.

So I'm eating my protein first, then a viscous fiber (chia seeds, flax seeds, steel cut oats or even just good ole metamucil), THEN any carbs. Reducing snacking between meals. And drinking loads more water. And so far, I've reduced the calories I feel that I need by about 500/day because I'm fuller. It makes calorie reduction so much simpler.
